Specialized Senior Adult
Psychiatric Care
The behavioral healthcare needs of senior adults are unique. As seniors begin to age, they face a whole new set of challenges as their bodies change and their environment starts to look different. From losing mobility to losing loved ones, it’s not hard to see how some seniors start to show symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other forms of mental illness and behavioral health issues as they get older.
Fortunately, no one has to face their troubles alone. If you or your aging loved one is beginning to struggle with behavior health issues, getting help from a geriatric psychiatric hospital could be the next step. Whether you’re struggling with substance abuse or a personality disorder, help is available at Kingwood Pines Hospital. Our program for older adults stabilize their most pressing symptoms while instilling the skills necessary to maintain a healthy mental health outlook once they leave our care.
OUR PSYCHIATRIC CARE FOR SENIORS
Kingwood Pines Hospital’s senior adult inpatient program offers psychiatric stabilization in response to negative behavioral changes in senior adults age 65 and older. Inpatient care offers 24-hour nursing care and supervision as our team of therapists and nurses stabilize symptoms in our geriatric psychiatry unit.
The goal of this program is to help senior adults achieve a higher level of functioning and emotional wellness. Aging can cause so much emotional instability, so our inpatient psychiatric care for seniors is restorative: teaching seniors how to find peace and stability in their changing lives. Through individual therapy, group counseling and other therapy modalities and hospital services, we want to give seniors the skills, confidence and self-reliance they need to cope with an ever changing world.
This specialized program is designed to help senior adults work on life issues associated with aging, such as depression, grief and loss, anxiety or agitation, memory loss or confusion. Many senior adults that come to us are on a number of other prescription drugs for pain or other ailments, so we offer medication management as well. We are also able to provide substance abuse treatment and detox for older adults who are dealing with an addiction to alcohol or prescription medication.
The dedicated staff at our medical center will work with patients and families to put together personalized treatment plans. These plans account for the patient’s mental health needs, medical condition and what their aftercare plan will need to be, whether they’re headed for their family home or a nursing home/facility. If you would like to start talking about the issues you or your loved one is facing, we’re available 24 hours a day.
